Book Review: Mystery Ink, Mystery Heir by Staci Troilo

During the month of September, I’m featuring author interviews and book reviews. All of the authors are fellow Tribe Writers and most of them are in my online fiction group, affectionately known as “The Otters.” Today, I’m excited to feature author Staci Troilo and a review of her book, Mystery Ink, Mystery Heir. After my review, Staci tells us a bit about her upcoming novels. She is one busy lady. Please welcome, Staci!

Some towns aren’t meant to have their curses broken.

Who doesn’t love a good mystery? I’ve always been intrigued by them—Unsolved Mysteries was once my favorite television show. When it comes to reading, suspense and mystery books are my favorite genre. This summer, I was excited to read Mystery Ink, Mystery Heir.

Naomi and Penelope, the Dotson twins, don’t believe in curses, but many of the residents in Centerville are steeped in superstition. After all, how else do you explain food poisoning at an Easter egg hunt, the Grand Marshall wreaking his car and breaking his neck at the Memorial Day Parade, or mortars exploding on the ground during the July 4th fireworks?

Then someone murders a town councilman. During an Oktoberfest celebration, a break-in occurs at a lawyer’s office, and police arrest a suspect in the councilman’s murder. Naomi and Penelope believe the police have arrested the wrong man. They see no problem in helping to solve the crime. (Although their sleuthing skills are unwanted.)

What follows is a series of trails and clues that lead to the discovery of cover-ups, an unknown child, and land disputes. When Naomi gets into trouble with the police and too close to the murderer, will the mystery be solved?

Staci did an excellent job of weaving twists and turns and created a compelling plot. This book is the last of a series, written by different authors, but I would love to see Staci write other books with Naomi and Penelope as characters.

Staci’s upcoming works:

I have a mainstream fiction novel, Type and Cross, that will be out in November. It’s about a dysfunctional family and the trials they undergo when a tragedy reveals secrets and unleashes turmoil that threatens to destroy a career, a marriage, and a family.

In time for the holidays, I have a Christmas-themed short story in a romance anthology being released by Lagan Press. “Three Nights, Two Secrets, One Wish” is the story of former college lovers serendipitously reunited around Christmas, only to have their relationship threatened again by the secrets they’re keeping.

Finally, in May, the first in a series of four paranormal romances will be released. Bleeding Heart deals with Francesca, the secret legacy of the Medici, who is forced under the protection of Gianni, a warrior destined to defend her from the prophesied assassin. He must conquer her fears and his demons in time to rescue them both.

Staci Troilo has been writing since she was a child. She earned her bachelor and master degrees in writing from Carnegie Mellon University, and after graduating, worked in corporate communications until she had her children. Later she worked as a writing professor and now is an editor and marketing director as well as a novelist and short story writer. Her works combine dark, dangerous heroes and strong, capable heroines woven together into a contemporary tapestry of tantalizing romance, compelling villains and gripping mysteries.
