Hey, Readers! Time for another review and release date for the Harbor Pointe Series. D. Wallace Peach’s The Seas of Time is one you won’t want to miss.

Blurb:

The Harbor Pointe Inn has loomed on California’s cliffs for generations of Hawthornes. For some, it’s been a blessing. For others, a curse. Travel through two centuries of stories to discover the old inn’s secrets.

In 1858, a ship carrying ice from Alaska wrecked off the coast of California, and little does Taliah Keldan realize how that tragedy will impact her life in 1972.

When Tali decides to quit college and become a civil rights activist, her disappointed parents encourage her to think it over. What better spot for contemplation than at her aunt and uncle’s Harbor Pointe Inn, a charming seaside getaway with its own lighthouse? The place is under renovation and empty of guests. All she’ll have to deal with is the construction crew.

But the inn is far from peaceful.

Tali discovers an old Bible hidden in the lighthouse keeper’s cottage. Strange prayers angle down the margins, all but one ruined by the sea. When she deciphers the crude writing, a dark portal gapes open to a pre-civil war night when an escaped slave in a foundering ship prayed to his voodoo God. A winged creature emerges from the watery void, and her stay transforms into a nightmare.

With the aid of the construction foreman, Tali is determined to send the beast back through time, a choice that will risk their lives, test her convictions, and change her future.

My Review:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of time travel, so this book really piqued my interest. D. Wallace Peach delivers a powerful story that not only includes time travel, but a loveable monster (yes, there can be such a thing), and a tale of social injustice.

Tali is a young woman of mixed race who often faces the prejudices of others. In 1972, she decides to drop out of college to become a civil rights activist, much to her parents’ disappointment. Not wanting her to make any rash decisions, they encourage her to stay with her aunt and uncle at the Harbor Pointe Inn.

When she arrives, she discovers the place is undergoing renovation. Tali not only has to face a bigoted law enforcement officer but also an irascible construction foreman. When she discovers an old Bible, the action begins.

Peach’s gift of crafting descriptive prose and well-developed characters shines through. I highly recommend this one!

  1. HI Joan, a wonderful review of Diana’s contribution to this series. I expect my copy has arrived but I need to read Denise’s first. I am finding these different interpretations of a single prompt fascinating.

    • Thanks, Robbie, for your kindness. Joan’s review had me doing a happy dance. Enjoy Denise’s story. It’s a good one. And I agree with you that the different takes on the prompt are fascinating. It was a blast reading them all and seeing how each author’s mind works. Happy Reading, my friend.

    • It’s really amazing at how we all came up with different ideas. We had some general planning and then decided what decade/era to set our stories. All are different except for mine and Staci’s which take place only a few months apart. She and I shared some minor characters.

  2. Congratulations to Diana for another 5-star review! Thank you, Joan, for showcasing her latest great story. 😊

  3. Thanks so much for sharing the release, Joan, and for the wonderful review. I’m thrilled to see the book out in the world. The day has finally arrived. I know you’ll feel the same way in the new future as your part of the series lands. Have a great day and huge hugs. <3

      • I know! The timing is actually pretty good, I think. Close enough to keep readers tapped in, but far enough between to let them finish one before moving to the next. I’m looking forward to the last for roll outs, including yours!

  4. A fantastic and well deserved review, Joan! I thoroughly enjoyed The Seas of Time. Diana wrote a wonderful novella, but I would expect nothing less from such a gift author. Wishing her all the best, and thanks for sharing!

  5. Wonderful review, Joan. Diana tackles tough subjects in her novels. I envy her ability to insert real life issues in her fantasy stories in such a way that the reader comes away the better for it.

    • Thank you for stopping by Joan’s and for the wonderful comment, Jacquie. 😀 I’m not as subtle with the issues in this book since it’s the core of the story (sort of) and takes place in the real world, but I hope the story is more fun than anything else. Things get a little crazy, as always. I really do hope you enjoy it. Huge hugs. <3

    • Diana does a great job with that, Jacquie. As she said in her comment, the issues aren’t as subtle in this one, however, she wrote in such a way that draws a reader’s attention to a certain matter without going overboard on what can be a controversial subject. I’m confident you’ll enjoy the story.

  6. I’m the same with time travel stories, Joan – they’ve always fascinated me and been among my favorites. Great review – I know I’ll enjoy Diana’s story!

I love hearing from readers. Let's talk!
