Hey everyone. A couple of weeks ago on Story Empire, Craig posted about the length of stories and our short attention spans. (If you haven’t read that post, click here.) While I still love to read a well-written novel, I’ve enjoyed a few short stories this summer that are easily read in less than an hour. Today, I’d like to share a review of the first of two of those stories, Red Eyes in The Darkness by D L Finn.
Blurb:
What happens when you’re living the good life after retirement and your world suddenly turns upside down? Will and Cass Henderson learn the truth after a family member is murdered, but no one believes them because they’re the prime suspects. The Hendersons have a red-eyed killer in the family, and they’re next on its kill list.
My 5 Star Review:
Not Your Ideal Retirement
This well-written story hooked me from page one. Retirees Will and Cass Henderson are accused of a murder they didn’t commit. The evidence was circumstantial and not enough for authorities to obtain a conviction. Still, friends and family, even their own daughters, turned away from them.
Left alone with their two dogs, “It” begins stalking them. What follows is a series of events that leave the Hendersons fearing for their lives. Determined to prove the identity of the killer, they devise a plan to outsmart their red-eyed stalker.
This one will keep you on the edge of your seat!
Available on Amazon.
Author Bio:
D.L. Finn is an independent California local who encourages everyone to embrace their inner child. She was born and raised in the foggy Bay Area, but in 1990 relocated with her husband, kids, dogs, and cats to the Sierra foothills in Nevada City, CA. She immersed herself in reading all types of books, but especially loved romance, horror, and fantasy. She always treasured creating her own reality on paper. Finally, being surrounded by towering pines, oaks, and cedars, her creativity was nurtured until it bloomed. Her creations vary from children’s books, young adult fantasy, and adult paranormal romance to an autobiography with poetry. She continues on her adventures with an open invitation for her readers to join her.
A note about ratings. I consider three stars and above as positive reviews. I reserve five stars for books that keep me turning the pages and that I would read again. (Yes, I’ve been known to do that.)
5 Stars: Awesome story! Couldn’t put it down – Highly recommend.
4 Stars: The book kept me interested – Check it out.
3 Stars: It was okay. Not my favorite, but I didn’t dislike it enough to discontinue.
2 Stars: Book didn’t hold my interest, problems with the plot, characters, poor writing, etc.
1 Star: Don’t bother!
