I promised myself I wouldn’t write about the weather this week since my last two Friday posts talked about my favorite season. It’s been a busy week, and I found time almost got away from me. TGIF, but where did the week go?

The Steve Miller Band released a song back in the 70s which talked about time slipping into the future. It’s so true, and I think the older I get, the faster time goes. Lots of songs have been written about time. The Chambers Brothers’ “Time Has Come Today” and Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” are two others that come to mind.

I didn’t have a photo that fit the concept of time, so I dug back into my archives and found a series of shots taken a few years ago. My husband was gracious enough to accompany me to a nearby town to wait for Amtrak. If you’ve ever traveled by train, you know Amtrak is notorious for not being on time.

The reason for my visit? I was getting ready to publish my first novella, “The Stranger.” In this book, a stranger arrives in town via Amtrak. I needed a photo for the cover and thought I could capture the perfect shot. I took a least a dozen and didn’t use any of them. The reason? It was the wrong time of the year for the story.

Hard to believe that it was three years ago. See? Time is slipping into the future.

Now, before I take more of your time, here are this week’s writing links:

  1. Time does have a way of advancing quickly. My husband and I often joke that it seems we were teenagers just yesterday. I remember a quote along the lines of we spend most of our lives a kids wanting to be an adult, and then as an adult we wonder why we were in such a hurry to arrive. 🙂

  2. Fall is my favorite time of year, so I wouldn’t have minded another foliage picture. But this was good, too. It reminded me of your novella—the first thing I read of yours, and it made me a fan.

Lovely post, Joan. And thanks for sharing all these links, including my SE post.

    • Always happy to share. I may post another fall foliage pic soon. Maybe even take some new ones. Fall is my favorite season – something else we have in common.

  3. You could ride the Amtrack to someplace that had a bit of snow. Maybe you could write the expense off as research. I was always partial to the Pink Floyd song Time. Its opening riffs were the theme song to the saturday Creature Feature movies I used to watch.

    • I’ve taken short trips on Amtrak but would love to do a long one. Get a sleeper car. The works.

Love the Pink Floyd song. In fact Dark Side of the Moon is a favorite album. Think I’ll add it to my playlist for today.

      • The only one I’ve take was the Alaska Railroad. My brother and I were always going to take Amtrack to San Francisco. It was supposed to drop off near old Candlestick Park. Figured we could catch a game and go back home. We never did it.

I love hearing from readers. Let's talk!
