Hey, everyone. It’s the first of October, which is my favorite month of the year.
I’ve been on vacation this week. For the first time in several years, we’re having fall-like weather. Lows in the fifties, highs in the mid-seventies to low-eighties. Yesterday, I took advantage of the temps to sit on my porch for a while.
Look at those crystal clear skies. And speaking of that, tonight is the Full Harvest Moon. Here’s a shot I took of a full moon in 2013. This was actually in November.
Yes, I have a fascination with full moons. You couldn’t tell it by my blog header, could you? This year, October treats us to a second one on the 31st. It’s known as a blue moon.
In yesterday’s WIP Wednesday post, I shared the playlist for my upcoming short story, House of Sorrow. It’s the prequel to the first Legends of Madeira book, Cold Dark Night. I won’t tell you a lot, but let’s say full moons play into that story.
Although I haven’t written a lot of new words this week, it’s been productive. I’ve edited, designed a book cover, and written the first draft of the dreaded book blurb.
What’s your week been like? Drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you.

October is one of my favorite months as well — crisp breezes, clear skies, and changing leaves. Beautiful. Congrats on all the preparation for your upcoming launch! 😉
And I can imagine how beautiful it is in your part of the country, Gwen. Thanks for the warm wishes!
When we get the proper fall weather, it’s my favourite time of the year, and so many beautiful colours! Lovely moon shots, Joan. And I’m looking forward to reading your new books 🙂
I’m hoping this weather sticks around for a while. Next week’s forecast calls for much of the same. Many times we’ve been still in the low to mid-nineties through October. I hope to pen some new words today as I am looking forward to releasing the new series.
Happy October. My week has been hectic, like they all are these days.
This one is going by too fast! But they all tend to do that.
I hope your time off is everything you want and need it to be.
Thanks, Staci. It’s been nice so far.
We’ve been having some lovely fall temperatures, too. In my area that means mid 60s and beautiful colorful leaves. I drive a lot of tree-lined streets to and from work, and they’re utterly gorgeous right now.
No writing for me this week, but I’m hoping to get a few hours in this Sunday on my regular writing day. Congrats on all the progress you’re making with your novella. That’s awesome!
Best of luck to you on the writing. I would love to see your fall colors. A few more weeks until ours reach their peak.
In Texas, we often don’t get to experience fall, and this year is an exception. I’m loving it! I too have a great fascination with the Moon and its endless cycles. On the full moon, I always put my Crystals out to charge under its rays. How cool we get two full moons this month – and on Halloween, no less!!
This reminds me of when I was in school. Back when we didn’t start until after Labor Day. Two or three weeks of warm weather, then fall. Cool about your Crystals.
Yeah, full moons and Halloween. Got to be a story there.
Very nice, Joan. A good week. I have written two new short stories this week so I’m happy.
That’s wonderful, Robbie! Wish I could write that fast. Doing a happy dance for you!
It isn’t usually like this, it depend on the topic and the story.
Since I’m also in Texas you know how much the weather has improved. The moon was so bright last night it was like we left the lights on. Our house has a lot of glass so it is hard not to notice. Now that my tour is over I have to get to writing on the next book.
The moon woke my cat up at 4:00 this morning. I was not happy! But he settled down after a while. Good luck with the next book!
I’m so excited there’s a full moon on Halloween! I might go enjoy the moon tonight if its not too smoky:) I’ve been editing this week, but snuck a poem in. Have a great rest of week, Joan.
Most of my “writing” this week has been editing. Almost done with the short story and need to pen some new words on the novel.
My dad’s been talking about the full moon/blue moon for months now, lol. Our last several Halloweens have been rainy/cloudy, so I’m hoping to be able to see it.
We had a good view of the Harvest Moon last night. Hopefully the same will happen for the Blue Moon on Halloween.
Vacations are wonderful. Fall is my favorite time of the year. The leaves changing color, the smells in the air, the cool nights. Good luck on your current WIPs.
Thanks, Michele. Last week went by too fast!
