Tribe WritersIn October 2012, I signed up for an online writing course by Jeff Goins called Tribe Writers. I can’t remember how I heard about it, but the course sounded like what I needed to take my writing to the next level.

I had taken writing courses before, several of them online, but this course was different.  This wasn’t the usual “how to write” course. Tribe Writers wasn’t about grammar, punctuation, or related to a specific genre. It didn’t promise to teach me how to write the next great American novel.

But it did say that I would learn to hone my writer’s voice, to establish a platform, expand my reach, and, as Jeff says with a “swift kick in the pants and some encouragement”, to become a published writer.

Therefore, I knew what to expect, and Tribe Writers delivered.

But then, there was something more. Something I didn’t expect. Something I hadn’t experienced with other online groups and courses.

Friendships…

Although I haven’t met any Tribe Writers in person (except for one who I already knew), I’ve made friends. Friends who understand when you become discouraged. Friends who are there to help. Friends that are there to encourage. And that alone makes the course worth the investment.

A year later, we Tribe Writers are celebrating the one-year anniversary. We’ve gone through a lot together over the past year. We’ve celebrated when a Tribe Writer releases a new book. We’ve prayed when one has gone through a difficult time. We’ve learned and we continue to learn together.

In celebration of the one-year anniversary, I wrote the acrostic found above. Registration for the next class of Tribe Writers closes in a few days. If you’re ready to take your writing to the next step, and make some wonderful friendships along the way, click here to sign up. (Affiliate link.) You won’t be disappointed.

  1. My sentiments exactly! It has been an amazing blessing to *meet* all these wonderful, supportive, fun, creative people who love writing as much as I do (and usually more!) You are a treasure, Joan.

    • Thank you, Kathleen. I feel the same about you. Friendships are an added bonus of Tribe Writers. One that doesn’t cost us anything, but gives back so much value.
