The day has finally arrived. Unseen Motives is now available at major retailers. As I shared a few weeks ago, I often wondered if this day would happen. But after many years of “thinking” about the story, over a year of sporadic writing, and another year of putting off the edits, it’s done.

Overview:

Stephanie Harris is no stranger to mystery— she’s a bestselling thriller novelist with a tragic past. She returns to her hometown of Driscoll Lake to settle the affairs of a deceased relative and stumbles on a real-life mystery involving her family. When she unearths long-buried secrets that threaten to expose a scandal, she finds herself caught in a web of deceit and danger that puts her directly in the crosshairs of a cold-blooded killer.

Here is a brief excerpt from a crucial scene near the end:

“Hello? Are you here?”

Silence. Like the calm before the storm. The stillness before a tornado unleashes its fury. She wanted to leave but felt strangely drawn to her father’s old office—the room where he died.

She hesitated a moment before opening the door and going inside. Pale moonlight streamed through the dirty windows. Kyle stood in the center of the room where her father’s desk once sat. His expression was blank—almost as if he was unaware of her presence.

Like a moth drawn to a flame, she rushed toward the spot. The remnant of a dark stain was visible on the bare floor.

Is this my father’s blood? Stephanie knew the answer and turned to look at another dark stain near the door. Madelyn died there.

The sound of footsteps came from the hallway.

“We need to get out of here, now.” Stephanie rushed toward a window. She tried to raise it, but it wouldn’t open. “Kyle,” she whispered, “Help me!”

He remained standing in the center of the room—transfixed by the sound coming from the hallway.

“Kyle!”

“It’s too late.” The voice came from outside the door.

Stephanie turned. Rachel stood in the doorway, her face ashen. A man stood behind her with a gun in his hand.

“Get in there with your friends.” He pushed Rachel to the center of the room and pointed to Stephanie. “You. Move away from that window.”

Stephanie turned and stood beside Rachel and Kyle.

The man came into the room. Stephanie had a sickening feeling in the pit of her stomach.

“Well, now,” he said. “This is good. We’re all here. The place where it all began.”

Unseen Motives is the first of three books in the Driscoll Lake Series. It is available in Kindle and ePub format, as well as print version. Click here for a list of retailers.
